Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – 29 March 2020

Meadows Medical Centre is committed to protecting our staff, patients and community as we navigate through the current COVID-19 situation.

As such, we are now offering Telehealth appointments via phone and video. Please call reception on  (03) 9369 4266 to organise an appointment. Video appointments are held using ZOOM which can be downloaded for free and also as an app in Google Play Store and Apple.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – 22 March 2020

The major risk factors of COVID-19 infection may include:

  • recent overseas travel, or
  • contact with someone who has COVID-19

Symptoms of COVID-19 can include:

  • fever
  • flu like symptoms such as coughing, breathing difficulties, sore throat and fatigue.

It may take up to 14 days for symptoms to show after a person has been infected.

Please note that even if you haven’t travelled but are experiencing cold and flu symptoms please inform reception prior to arrival.

Meadows Medical Centre is operational for TeleHealth consultations. TeleHealth consultations involve staying at home and speaking with your GP via phone OR video-conference. ( Children 15 and under are required to use video with their parent or guardian for consultations.)

The platform we are using for video-conferencing is called ‘Zoom’.

As per new government guidelines, videoconferencing or phone consultations can be bulk-billed under Medicare for patients who;
  • Have been diagnosed with COVID-19 virus and are not a patient in hospital; or
  • Have been advised to isolate themselves in quarantine in accordance with home isolation guidance issued by Australian Health Protection Principle Committee (AHPPC); or
  • Are considered more susceptible to the COVID-19 virus being a person who is
    (a) At least 70 years old; or
    (b) At least 50 years old and is Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
    (c) Pregnant; or
    (d) Is a parent of a child under 12 months; or
    (e) Already under treatment for chronic health conditions or is immune compromised; or
  • the person meets the current criteria for suspected COVID-19 infection
NOTE: Meadows Medical Centre can also provide Telehealth consultations to those who do not meet the criteria, as a result of this, there will be a private fee (upfront payment).
Here are some tips for your next TeleHealth consultation:
  • Download ‘Zoom Cloud Meetings’ on your iPhone, Android, Tablet, Windows PC
  • Have your best email address ready as we will send you a personalised link to invite you to the video meeting
  • Speak clearly so your voice can be picked up by the microphone
  • Look directly at the camera to achieve good eye contact with the doctor
  • Be ready to talk about your medical history and current condition
